EIM SCORING METHODOLOGY

Formulators can choose the level of disclosure they would like to provide for EIM scoring, with three options possible. ToxServices will calculate an EIM Chemistry Impact score for each chemical formulation following the rules outlined below.

Option 1

Proof of current ZDHC MRSL Conformance plus SDS disclosure

Requirement: ZDHC MRSL Conformance v.3.1 (or most current version) and a product-level SDS.  This is the minimum requirement to list products in EIM Registry.

Option 1 scoring rules:

  • If no high hazard chemicals, formulation can be listed in the EIM Registry. Depending on the level of ZDHC conformance, the scores are categorized as follows:
    ○ ZDHC Level 1 Conformant: Score of 66 (orange)
    ○ ZDHC Level 2 Conformant: Score of 57 (orange)
    ○ ZDHC Level 3 Conformant: Score of 47 (orange)

  • If any chemicals of high concern are listed on the SDS (including hazard statements H340, H350, H360, H362, H370, H372, H373, H400, H410, H420, or GreenScreen List Translator LT-1, LT-P1, or public Benchmark 1, the formulation will be assigned a score of 100 (red).

  • To qualify for an EIM Chemistry Impact Score using Option 1, each SDS must be current and of sufficient quality and reliability (e.g, GHS compliant).  Any current ZDHC recognized assessment body conformance certificate will be accepted.

Total Option 1 possible points = 47-100

Clients may pursue higher EIM scores through Options 2 or 3 (below).

Option 2

100% Ingredient Disclosure and Chemical Hazard Assessment

Requirement: All formulations assessed under Option 2 will undergo a Chemical Hazard Assessment using the GreenScreen List Translator to identify chemical scores based on the characteristics and impacts of those chemicals.

Option 2 scoring rules:

  • ZDHC v3.1 MRSL Conformance (or most current version) and a product-level SDS is the minimum requirement to list products in the EIM Registry. Any current ZDHC recognized assessment body conformance certificate will be accepted.

  • 100% ingredient disclosure.

  • This disclosure will result in a score of 28-100 based on the assessment of each ingredient.

  • If formulation is completely disclosed and the formulation contains no GreenScreen Benchmark 1s (BM-1s), GreenScreen List Translator-1 (LT-1s), GreenScreen List Translator Unknown (LT-Unks), or ToxFMD Not Acceptable (High Priority) chemicals:
    ○ ZDHC Level 1 Conformant = 38 (orange)
    ○ ZDHC Level 2 Conformant = 33 (green)
    ○ ZDHC Level 3 Conformant = 28 (green)

  • If formulation is 100% disclosed and contains no GreenScreen Benchmark 1s (BM-1s), GreenScreen List Translator-1 (LT-1s) chemicals, or ToxFMD Not Acceptable chemicals:
    ○ ZDHC Level 1 Conformant = 47 (orange)
    ○ ZDHC Level 2 Conformant =  42 (orange)
    ○ ZDHC Level 3 Conformant = 38 (orange)

  • If any chemicals are classified as GreenScreen List Translator P-1 chemicals (meaning potentially BM-1), then the client has the following options:
    ○ Pay for a full GreenScreen chemical hazard assessment
    ○ Or choose Option 1

  • If any GreenScreen BM-1, GreenScreen LT-1, or ToxFMD Not Acceptable (High Priority) chemicals are identifed in the formulation = 100 (red)

Total Option 2 possible points = 28-100

Option 3

ToxFMD® Screened Chemistry Certification

Requirements:

  • ZDHC v3.1 MRSL Conformance (or current version) and a product-level SDS is the minimum requirement to list products in the EIM Registry.  Any certification method that qualifies for ZDHC MRSL Conformance will be accepted.

  • In addition, we require that your formulation have a Screened Chemistry score and certificate. If applying for ToxFMD Screened Chemistry certification, ToxServices will include a complimentary EIM score as part of the process.

Option 3 scoring rules:

  • ToxFMD® Screened Chemistry scoring:

  • If ToxFMD® Screened Chemistry Preferred Formulation (35 to 50) and
    o ZDHC Level 1 Conformant = 9 (green)
    o ZDHC Level 2 Conformant = 5 (green)
    o ZDHC Level 3 Conformant = 0 (green)

  • If ToxFMD® Screened Chemistry Acceptable/Needs Improvement Formulation (20 to 34) and
    o ZDHC Level 1 Conformant =  38 (orange)
    o ZDHC Level 2 Conformant = 33 (green)
    o ZDHC Level 3 Conformant = 28 (green)

  • If ToxFMD® Screened Chemistry certification is not possible due to a phase out score (ToxFMD 20 or less), the client may pursue scoring rules under Option 1 or Option 2.

Total Option 3 possible points = 0-38

Commodity Chemicals:

Commodity chemicals are evaluated at the single CAS number basis, and are assessed following ToxFMD Screened Chemistry rules (www.screenedchemistry.com).  Commodity chemical scores are managed by Jeanologia.
